    Description

7 Lessons on Skills tested most often on STAAR and other state assessments, plus 2 Revising/Editing practices and Key - 9 products total.

There are many resources out there that offer practices and quizzes for revising-and-editing tests. The problem is that they assess the skills but do not teach them. Many students have only been taught these skills quickly or ineffectively. -- and some students have never been taught these skills! Repeatedly quizzing students on skills that they don't know and have not been taught is an exercise in futility.

Having said that, as a junior-high English teacher you cannot spend your whole year or your whole semester on grammar and usage. Efficiency of time is vital.

The bundle contained here contains actual LESSONS on the skills that are the most commonly assessed on the Texas Writing STAAR, grades 6, 7 and 8. The lessons are short, clear, easy-to-read, and to the point. They all contain numerous examples -- not just one or two -- of the skill correctly used. Each lesson also contains a short worksheet or quiz, but students are not quizzed on anything until it has been thoroughly explained and examples shown. Save 30% on this bundle.

Yes, it is possible to raise your students' scores on the writing STAAR or FSA. You can do it without teaching to the test, and without hijacking your entire year's curriculum. You can also teach these skills with a clear conscience and no apologies; these skills are also tested later on the SAT and other college-entrance exams. They are also necessary to professional literacy later in life.

Throughout my 20-plus years as a junior-high English teacher in Texas, I have regularly clocked higher scores for my students' state assessments than other teachers that have a similar cohort of students. I have done it by studying past state exams, compiling a list of the most commonly-tested skills, and then working up practical, time-efficient lessons to teach these skills.

This bundle also contains a revising-and-editing practice passage, with 10 questions, along with key.
