Description
Do you teach the anatomy of the respiratory tract to your high-school students? This 6-page activity is the PERFECT way to introduce the respiratory system to your anatomy, health, or biology students! No prior teaching required!
Pages 1 - 3: Students will read about their "journey" as a nitrogen molecule entering the respiratory tract. Along their journey, they will enter each structure and read about that structure's function and important details. They will end up in the lungs where they will witness the diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the alveoli. On these pages students will also find instructions for coloring the respiratory tract on page 6.
Pages 3 - 5: Review what you've learned! First, students will answer higher-order thinking questions based upon the reading in this packet such as, "Why is it healthier to breathe through your nose and not your mouth?" and "Why shouldn't you talk when you are are eating? Explain using the words esophagus, trachea, and epiglottis." After they answer 6 higher-order questions, they will complete a fill-in-the-blank chart. Within this chart students will need to apply what they have learned to determine which part of the respiratory tract each statement is describing.
Page 6: Color the respiratory tract!
Parts of the respiratory tract covered: diaphragm, nose, nasal cavity, pharynx, trachea, larynx, epiglottis, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli
