What educators are saying

This resource was so helpful. I really appreciated the visual cards and being able to separate them into the two categories. Thank you!
Another great resource which I've used to look at the concept of "respect" with clients who find this difficult to understand and relate to. The sorting activity has been very effective .

    Description

This product is a social narrative with a correlating sorting activity revolving around how to show respect. It was designed for students with autism and is perfect to help all kids (especially those in enrolled in special education services) understand how to show respect and what actions do not show respect. This activity is designed to touch on what respect is and how to show it, then doing a sorting activity to provide examples of the respectful vs disrespectful behaviors.

The social narrative includes ways to show respect, such as having a safe body, using a calm voice and nice words, listening and following directions. It also includes actions that don't show respect, such as hitting, kicking or biting, saying mean words and interrupting.

This product also includes a good friend sort (with safe friend and kind friend sort templates if you prefer that terminology). It comes with a red/green sorting background, along with 16 icons to sort that are centered around being a good friend versus bad friend. It is meant to be a supplemental activity for teaching appropriate versus inappropriate behavior relating to friendship.

    Directions:

    • Read the social story with students and go over the concept of respect.
    • Distribute red/green templates to every student.
    • Cut out the icons and have students match them with being respectful vs. disrespectful by gluing them on the red/green template.

It includes 2 red/green templates for sorting that you can choose from:

    • Respectful vs Disrespectful
    • Kind vs Unkind
    • Safe vs Unsafe
