Description

Global 9 Enduring Issue Essay Sp.Ed. Modified Week 10 No. 1

This product is the Enduring Issue essay from my collection for week 10 that has been modified for special education. The documents in the essay have been re-written in plain English and confirmed to be in the Lexile range of 600L-900L. Readability was calculated using Lexile Free Readability tool or the readability calculators at TeachersWebHost.com.

Although this essay prompt is built with the special education student in mind, it could be a very good way to begin training students to write these essays for everyone. The modified essay prompt would remove reading comprehension as a variable in the training program.

NOTE: This product is reduced in price compared to similar products in my store because of the four text primary sources, only one needed to be rewritten to meet the Lexile reading level of upper elementary readers.

The product includes the following:

1. The modified student version of the essay prompt where each document has been re-written at an upper elementary reading level.

2. A grading rubric. This is my rubric, based on the NYSED rubric, for scoring on a scale of 100 in the classroom.

3. Copy of the NYSED rubric

I teach out of InnovationAssessments.com where there are free features.

Sold separately: "Assessment Pack" which includes (a) the teacher version of the essay prompt (Social Studies Framework references, suggestions for teaching from my experience, and suggested enduring issues likely linked to the documents that students could see); (b) Sample simulated student essays at different score levels for rating purposes; (c) PowerPoint for students to guide learning to write this essay (slides of each document with prompts for whole group discussion or debriefing).

Sold separately: Regular education version of this essay prompt.
