Description

Use this resource to help students learn about recycling! This recycling sort is a great activity to use around Earth Day, and when teaching students about taking care of the Earth. Students will have the opportunity to sort items to recycle or put in the trash using picture choices. This Recycling Sort comes in DIGITAL and PRINT versions! (Each version contains the same questions, just accessible in different versions to accommodate your students learning needs.) This game is designed for primary and special education classrooms.

Recycle It! Or Trash It! PowerPoint Game

  • When opening the PPT Game, a box will pop up and ask for a password. CLICK “READ ONLY” to play, you do not need a password. The password is only to protect the resource from being modified.
  • THE PPT GAME MUST BE PLAYED IN SLIDESHOW MODE IN MICROSOFT POWERPOINT IN ORDER FOR THE BUTTONS AND SOUND EFFECTS TO WORK PROPERLY. It can be played on any device that supports Microsoft PowerPoint, including interactive whiteboards.
  • This product was created with the latest version of PowerPoint (2016). The effects and transitions may not display properly on older versions.

Recycle It! Or Trash It! Paper Version (Cut and Paste)

  • Print
  • Cut and Paste Pictures to sort the items to Recycle or Trash.

Printable Signs

  • Print on card stock, laminate, and tape/glue to Jumbo Popsicle Sticks.
  • If you are using an Interactive Whiteboard for the activity, students can hold up their sign when it is not their turn at the board.

Recycle It! Or Trash It! Google Slide™ (Drag and Drop)

  • To access the activity, click the BLUE BOX below. You will be prompted to make your own copy for your personal Google Drive™. You can then assign students the activity in your Google Classroom™ by making a copy for each student. Please note: When you assign the activity in Google Classroom™, be sure to select “make a copy for each student” so students can interact with the slides.
  • Please Note: This activity is for Google Slides™. In order for students to interact with this resource, the slides must be in EDIT MODE. This activity will not work properly if the slide is in Present Mode. Directions for each slide are in the speaker notes at the bottom of the slide.

Recycle It! Or Trash It! BOOM Cards™ (Click the Picture)

  • There are 25 recycling task cards in this deck. The first 4 cards define what it means to recycle, why it is important, and provide directions for the game. There are 20 “Recycle it or Trash it” cards. Each card has a picture of an object and a recycling bin and trash can. Students click the recycling bin or trash can to sort the objects. The focus of these cards is to identify objects that can be recycled. For students who are not independent readers, the direction cards may need to be read aloud for them.
