What educators are saying

Loved this resource. I used it for my observation with the superintendent and for an assignment for my induction group. The kids loved it, they were engaged, and it really helped them break apart the text.
We use these in our year 1/2 class and work with students in groups to comprehend texts. This is a fantastic resource.

Description

This Reciprocal Teaching pack will help you effectively implement this effective reading comprehension strategy in your classroom. Students will learn and use the following comprehension strategies in small groups:

  • Summarizing
  • Clarifying
  • Questioning
  • Predicting

This pack includes the following:

THREE TASK CARD SETS:

  • Task cards with prompts for informational text and literature
  • Task cards without prompts

SIX GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS:

Once the text is read, have the students complete the portion of the graphic organizer that correlates with their assigned task. This ensures they are prepared to share with the group and are not sitting there with nothing to share. This also helps with accountability of task completion.

SEVEN RUBRICS:

  • Two rubrics that cover all of the reciprocal teaching tasks for informational text and literature.
  • Four rubrics that cover each individual reciprocal teaching skill.
  • One self- evaluation rubric for students to complete.

LESSON PLAN:

  • This is a generic lesson plan that will work with any text that I used on a daily basis in my classroom!

SIX DAY TEACHING SEQUENCE:

  • Mini lessons that will guide you as you introduce reciprocal teaching in your classroom.

ANCHOR CHARTS:

  • Post these in your classroom to help guide your groups during reciprocal teaching time.
