Trying to find a way to make science more meaningful in your classroom? Molecule Mondays is here to help!

Molecule Mondays is a fun, quick, non-quizzed activity to start those dreadful Mondays! Start class with science-y music such as ‘Weird Science’ by Oingo Boingo and/or ‘She Blinded Me With Science’ by Thomas Dolby then introduce students to the exciting world of science around them! Estimated time from beginning to end is just 10 minutes!

This packet contains a suggested schedule and Teacher's Guide with descriptions of 20 molecules (16 Monday's!) and links to supporting videos (about 3-5 minutes long). There is also a corresponding PowerPoint presentation with Lewis Structures, real world images of each molecule, and the same links from the Teacher’s Guide in the notes for easy access! The molecules in this packet include the following:

• Glycyrrihizin - black licorice
• Sucrose & Saccharin
• Trinitrotoluene - TNT
• Caffeine
• Chorophyll
• Carotenoids & Flavonoids - Fall Colors
• Kevlar
• Epinephrine & Cortisol - The Chemistry of Fear
• Theobromine - Chocolate!
• Nitrocellulose - Why don't windshields shatter into pieces?
• Dispersant - Cleaning up oil spills
• Tryptophan - Does turkey really make you sleepy?
• Eugenol & Isoeugenol - Cloves and Nutmeg
• Polymers - Pastics!
• Nylon - Plastic clothes?
• Water - The Chemistry of Ice

This packet takes care of all your prep work! You can post the slide for the molecule, talk about the molecule using the description from the teachers guide, and then click on the video link in the notes! Easy :-)

This activity will get student’s to look forward to not only science class but Mondays as well!!
