Description
Keeping students engaged with their reading requires a delicate balance of discussion, activity, group work, and quiet time reading. Literature Circle Units, Book Club Meetings, and Independent Reading are all ways that teachers are trying to keep reading fluency high and student engagement higher, and if you need some tools to help keep that going, I've got EIGHT for you right now!
This product is both a digital/editable & print resource. It will arrive to you via Google Slides: one slide is a plain-text, editable version, one slide is a complete PDF, print-ready template including student directions and the activity., and the following slide is the same template, but I've deleted my directions giving you a place to insert a text box and write your own. To assign? Simply create a new Google Slide deck, copy and paste the activity you'd like to do, and assign! I assign via Google Classroom, but whatever LMS you are using that is compatible with Google will be just fine.
EIGHT ACTIVITIES INCLUDED:
- A Book Snaps template (students snap a picture of a page in the book they're reading and creatively annotate that page)
- A Storyboard template (students choose major plot events, create a storyboard, and submit to you on the template)
- A Film Adaptation template (students discuss the way a film would adapt the text and submit to you a trailer, a movie poster, or whatever you ask for!)
- A First Lines analysis template (students record the first line of the novel and analyze for diction, tone, etc.)
- A Poetry Venn template (assign or give students the choice to find a poem to use for compare and contrast)
- A One Word template (students choose "one word" as a representation of the reading and create a visual collage for the word)
- An Emotional Curve Diagram template (students track the rise and fall of emotions as the plot plays out)
- A Photo Scavenger Hunt template (students take photos representing the highs and lows of the assigned reading)
Happy reading and please let me know how you use these templates with your own students! Join me on Instagram and keep me posted!
