Description

Nine African-American scientists/inventors (Benjamin Banneker, Mae Jemison, Patricia Bath, George Washington Carver, Dr. Mary Chinn, Lewis Latimer, Yvonne Cagle and Elijah McCoy, Patricia Bath) are featured in this collection of reader's theaters. They may be used in language arts, science or history class, adapted for a school wide program or even memorized and done, royalty free, as a stage play or video.

Each interview is self-contained so students can be divided into groups to read and rehearse; however some later interviews reference previously mentioned inventors and scientists. Reporter 5 provides comic relief as well as an explanation of some words. The Elijah McCoy interviews are in four distinct parts. This allows for grouping by ability, since 2 parts are short and part 4 has less difficult words.

Alliteration is defined, used twice and appears in the writing prompts. Internet resources, 14 writing prompts and 3 free online games are included. Following the Patricia Bath interview, additional questions review root words and dictionary skills.
