Description

Students become excited about reading in readers’ theater. Introduce them to the work of this important Harlem Renaissance author engaging them using readers' theater. (The Harlem Renaissance was an African-American cultural movement that focused on literature, music, theater, art, and politics.) Great activity for Black History Month! It has 6 parts, and 4 of those are narrators. You can divide or combine those to accommodate 4-8 readers. Help your students develop fluency by allowing multiple readings of the script. Encourage them to use expressiveness, intonation, and inflection when rehearsing the text.

(Flesch-Kincaid 3.9; Lexile 810 – grades 4-7)
