WHO are the mystery guests and WHO are they related to–Ignee Us, Seddy Mentary, or Dr. Meta Morphic?Rocks and Minerals Game Show will add a little spunk to your study of rocks and minerals.  Your students will love the hand signals for whole-class voting on each mystery guest.  And, they'll learn about specific rocks and minerals in the process.  Part 1 features Granite, Talc, and Quartz.  Part 2 features Obsidian, Gypsum, and Halite. Part 3 features Pumice, Marble, and Graphite. The whole set of five Readers Theater scripts includes two optional commercials. Audience participation creates full-class fun.

For YOUR students to enjoy "Rocks and Minerals Game Show," spread the scripts out over several days or compact them into one or two days. For compact unit studies, consider dividing your class into five groups. Let each group quietly practice their script like it's a secret.  After a few repeated readings let each group present their portion of the game show to the full class.  Of course, the listeners will be tuned in because they will be voting on WHO each mystery guest is related to–Ignee Us, Seddy Mentary, or Dr. Meta Morphic. One of the graphic organizers could be used as a voting ballot. Enjoy this Readers Theater geology collection in grades 4 through 8.

TIME: Part 1 = about 12 minutes (7 pages)

Part 2 = about 8 minutes (6 pages)

Part 3 = about 10 minutes (6 pages)

Commercial #1 = about 2 1/2 minutes (3 pages)

Commercial #2 = about 2 1/2 minutes (2 pages)

Total = about 35 minutes

CAST: Parts 1, 2, 3 = 2 – 8 readers, plus audience

Commercials #1 & #2 = 3 readers

TONE: light, educational

READABILITY (Flesch-Kincaid): Parts 1, 2, 3 = grade 4.4 – 4.7

Commercial #1 = grade 2.5

Commercial #2 = grade 4.7
