    Based on a history of rap music song, this fun end of year ELA packet for middle school will keep your students engaged using song lyrics as a reading passage while they practice a variety of skills! Easily incorporate them into independent activities or complete them together as a class lesson.

    Students will listen to the song then use the song's lyrics as a reading passage to complete the activities detailed below.

    These activities are:

    The song for these activities explores how four eras of rap music developed between the 1970s and the 2000s. Students will learn about the distinct features of the eras of rap, what influenced them, and how they uniquely progressed throughout history.

    Kids love music and will certainly enjoy learning about the history of rap music while practicing important reading skills such as making inferences and identifying synonyms and antonyms using song lyrics.
