RAFT Rubric (Role, Audience, Format, Topic)

R.A.F.T, which stands for Role, Audience, Format, and Topic, is a unique, highly engaging way for students to apply what they have learned. RAFTs encourage students to write creatively, to consider a topic from different points of view, and to gain practice writing for different audiences.

This rubric can be used with any RAFT assignment. This rubric is designed to support your students before, during, and after the RAFT writing process. With detailed descriptors in each category, students will know exactly what is expected of them and how to produce high quality work.

The rubric evaluates:
Accuracy
Evidence
Perspective
Focus
Presentation

RAFT writing is relevant in EVERY content area, so this rubric can be used across the curriculum!
