RACE Strategy - Identifying the Parts Task Cards

Do you need exemplars to help you teach what the parts of RACE look like?

In my classroom, students need to see what a good constructed response should look like. I use the RACE strategy in my room (R-Restate A -- Answer the question C - Cite the Text E - Explain and Elaborate on your text evidence).

These task cards have a question and a response. To complete the task, students must highlight the parts of RACE with a certain color. You will be receiving 5 Task cards with Answer keys.

RACE Strategy - Restate the Question or Task - Practice Pages plus Exit Slip

Do you use the RACE strategy for constructed response? I use it in my classroom. It's a wonderful building block for essay writing as well.

Most students will be able to grasp the “Restate” portion of the RACE strategy fairly easily. I do provide some quick practices in my classroom just to make sure they have it. This resource includes:

1.Restate the Question or Task instructional page. This can be used as a whole group activity or in a center/station.

2.Restate the Question or Task practice page. This can be done as a worksheet or in a center/station.

3.Exit Slip – use as an assessment to make sure all students know how to Restate.

4.Answer Keys for Everything. (Answer keys for this resource are all “possible answers.”

RACE Strategy - RESTATE and ANSWER the Question - Task Cards and Assessment

Are you trying to teach your students how to use RACE for Constructed Response? if so, my RACE strategy products are for you. This is a step by step approach to make sure students really understand each part.

This product is represents Answer the Question. However, once students are answering the question, they should already know how to restate, so this product is meant to teach Restate AND Answer.

You are getting 5 task cards with short texts. Each text has a question or a task. After reading the text, students should restate and answer the question. You will also receive an assessment to ensure students are "getting it."

RACE Strategy - Restate, Answer, and CITE THE TEXT - Student Paced Stations

Are you trying to teach your students how to use RACE for Constructed Response? if so, my RACE strategy products are for you. This is a step by step approach to make sure students really understand each part.

This product represents CITE THE TEXT. You will be getting Six Station Cards. There are three fiction text cards and three non fiction text cards. Each station cards will have one question/task that will require students to Restate, Answer and Cite the Text. I have included a recording page for your convenience as well as an Answer Key. However, the answer key contains possible answers only. There are many different correct answers for these questions/tasks, so the answer key is only meant as a guide.

RACE Strategy - Elaborate - Direct, Guided, Individual Practice with Elaboration

Are you trying to teach your students how to use RACE for Constructed Response? if so, my RACE strategy products are for you. This is a step by step approach to make sure students really understand each part.

This product focuses on the difficult skill of elaborating when writing expository and opinion responses. In this product, you are getting:

• An Instructional Power Point that includes three types of elaboration
• A journal page for students with three types of elaboration
• A guided practice page
• A teacher guide for the guided practice page
• An independent practice page

This resource contains writing scenarios that are based on text based responses. For all practices, students will see the other parts of RACE and will practice adding elaboration by using an anecdote, example or explanation.

Even if you are not teaching the RACE strategy for constructed response, you can still use this product when teaching Elaboration.
