Description

This is a great way to consolidate CVCC and CCVCC (short vowel) words. There are separate boards for each short vowel and some boards with mixed short vowels for discrimination and consolidation, perfect for differentiation. I have added a BLANK BOARD so you can differentiate even further. It is a game for two and all you need are counters and dice to get started. The directions are very simple and are written on each board. This is an updated product with a wider range of skill targets for enhanced differentiation and targeted intervention. It is a quick game so you can use it in small groups with a variety of boards.

My special interest is the foundation skills of literacy and numeracy, so I have developed the games in small, incremental steps to facilitate mastery. There is a carefully developed sequence, but you can use them in the order you prefer. Students play them over and over for fun, not realising they are consolidating the skills they need to progress in reading.

If you have some students who need more support my PICTURES for Letter Tiles products target phonemic awareness blending consonant digraphs with short vowels, a vital skill that transfers to spelling and writing when mastered. Phonemic discrimination and sequencing are practised simultaneously when the hands, eyes and ears are involved. My SORT IT cards come in a number of formats and are a hands-on resource that will suit multi-sensory learning as well.

I use games to consolidate these skills. If you wish to go that way try my DONKEY Card Game that is included free in my PICTURES for Letter Tiles CVCC product. WORD DETECTIVE has ten boards and 60 illustrated picture cards of CCVCC words so you can use the cards for intervention and then play the game with the whole class in groups of three with each player bringing their own small objects to the game to cover their words. I have developed a new game called STOMP 4. It is a board game for 2 to 4 players and comes with three word banks (CCVC, CVCC and CVVC). It targets phonemic awareness at this level and is the same format as my STOMP 3 game for CVC words.

I also have CLIMB and SLIDE Board Games that target the same skill sequence if you're interested.
