What educators are saying

I use this as homework skill practice. I like how it has multiple ways to practice the skills. Thank You!
The r controlled vowels seem to be the hardest piece of phonics for my students to identify and read correctly. This set of drills is so helpful. I send it home as homework after we read it in small group instruction. This lets the caregivers know exactly what their student is working on .

Description

These r-controlled vowels decoding activities are perfect for children who are just learning to read words with an r-controlled vowel or those students who are struggling to decode bossy r words quickly and automatically. Each decodable sheet includes decodable words, nonsense words, sentences, and a short story. These phonics activities are designed to move students from slowly blending words to a level where decoding is habitual and automatic.

Why did I create these decodable sheets?

I created these activities for the first grade students in my own classroom. After introducing a new phonics pattern my students need practice reading and applying the skills that they have just learned. I love using these no prep sheets as a warmup in guided reading

groups.
