Description

Use these engaging interactive notes to help students learn different methods for graphing quadratic equations in standard form. Then students can apply what they have learned with the 2 page practice worksheet.

What's included:

  • 2 pages of guided notes for a math binder or interactive notebook
  • 2 pages of practice

The guided notes teach graph features (axis of symmetry, vertex, and zeros) along with 3 methods for graphing without using a graphing calculator:

  • Creating a table of values
  • Calculating key features
  • Converting to vertex form

These notes work best after students are familiar with factoring and completing the square. Using the quadratic formula is not a requirement for answering questions, but students can use it if they know it.

Real world word problems are included for students to practice using the different methods.

Answer keys are included.

Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression.
Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defines.
Complete the square in a quadratic expression to reveal the maximum or minimum value of the function it defines.
Solve quadratic equations in one variable.
Solve quadratic equations by inspection (e.g., for ๐˜นยฒ = 49), taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex solutions and write them as ๐˜ข ยฑ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช for real numbers ๐˜ข and ๐˜ฃ.
