Description

Public speaking can seem like an impossible task to many students, but it doesn’t have to feel that way! Students can tolerate – and even enjoy – public speaking when they learn it in a fun and engaging way. These 4 hilarious public speaking games get students comfortable in front of a classroom and prepare them for more serious speeches later on.

This product includes the following:

Public Speaking Delivery Game -- Print off these public speaking game cards and cut them into individual pieces. Then have students each choose one card from a hat or envelope. Each card has one common public speaking mistake, and the student must act out that mistake in front of the class. This activity heightens student awareness of common public speaking errors in a light-hearted, entertaining way. My students enjoy playing this game multiple times during our public speaking units, and they even cheer when I bring out the envelope! Just last week, I overheard one of my students saying, "School isn't supposed to be this much fun!"

Public Speaking Expression Game -- In this game, students must draw a public speaking expression card and a quote card, and then read the quote with the selected facial/vocal expression. The rest of the class must guess which emotion the student is attempting to express. Not only does this activity promote better facial and vocal expression in class presentations and other public speaking opportunities, but it also bonds classmates together with peals of affirmative smiles and laughter. I have loved playing this game with my public speaking students, and I hope you enjoy it, as well!

Public Speaking Distraction Game -- This fun public speaking game gives students a chance to deal with the many distractions presenters face while speaking. Each "audience" member receives a card with one way audience members can distract a speaker, and they act it out! Not only does this game give students good up-front experience, but it also promotes attentive audience behavior when students understand their actions' effect on a speaker. This game is fun and light-hearted for everyone involved. When else are students actually ALLOWED to act up?

Public Speaking Gesturing Game -- In this game, students take turns coming to the front of the room and acting out common public-speaking topics printed on their game cards. Before long, these silly charades turn nerves into laughter, and students slowly gain confidence being themselves in front of the group. If your students are stiff and unmoving up front in class, this game may be just what they need to get moving!

My students always ask me if we can do the games! It helps them practice skills in a fun way. Since it is a game, they don't even realize that they are standing in front of people presenting. Thanks so much!

–Louise W.

My students loved playing these games. They continue to ask to play them each class.

–Alexandra C.

My students LOVED these games and begged to play them often in class!
