✏️ Day 1: This is a fantastic lesson that will allow students to start the unit on a adolescent and adult development in a fun and creative way! Students will start with a game, which will challenge what they think they know about adolescent and adult development. This multiple choice game will naturally lead to fun whole class conversation that’s sure to get students engaged! After the game, students will learn the vocabulary terms for the unit then show their understanding of the definitions.
✏️ Day 2: Students will learn about adolescent development in terms of physical, cognitive and social development. Each stage of adolescent development will be broken down for students and they will have ways to show their understanding of the material. This lesson is designed to be personalized by you to best suit your classroom and the students needs.
✏️ Days 3-5: This is a great 3 day brochure project where students will create a brochure that helps parents of a teen with understanding all they need to know to successfully parent a teen. Students will also get the website to take notes from and a structure to follow!
✏️ Day 6: Adolescent development and the role of family and peers-
In this lesson students will cover topics such as: identity moratorium, identity foreclosure, identity confusion/diffusion, and identity achievement. Students will also learn about the role of family and peers in development. Other topics such as teenage depression and eating disorders are also covered.
✏️ Days 7 and 8: This lesson will focus on adolescent development when it comes to identity, gender roles and stereotypes. Students will learn about gender roles, gender portrayal over time, developing identity, and intimacy and sexuality.
✏️ Days 9 and 10: Movie: The Perks of Being a Wallflower- This is a great movie that covers a variety of adolescent topics. While watching the film, students will have a movie guide to fill to and questions to reflect on.
✏️ Day 11: The Stages of Adulthood: Students will learn about young adulthood, middle adulthood and late adulthood then create a billboard of information from one of the three stages. Students will then breakdown the cost of a baby and what it would take finalically in the first year if life.
✏️ Day 12: Late adulthood, death and grieving: This is a fantastic 1 day lesson that will help you to provide a more in-depth understanding late adulthood, death, grieving, and the 5 stages of grief.
✏️ Day 13: Handout- The 5 Stages of Grief: This is a great 1 day lesson that allows students to practice their understanding of the stages of grief!
✏️ Day 14: The Psychology of Victim Blaming: This is a great 1 day lesson that allows students to look deeper into the psychology of victim blaming. Students will start with a basic story but what they don’t know is that ½ of the class will have one slightly modified version of the story, with words and phrases slightly adjusted to sway their interpretation! Only after revealing the slight changes to the story will students realized that they were just given a change to look closer at victim blaming and what that looks like.
