Description
If you're looking for a way to help your students develop reading comprehension skills, look no further than these informational close reading passages. The passages are designed to be engaging and fun while also teaching key reading comprehension skills. The focus is on text features, main idea/details, making inferences, drawing conclusions, and vocabulary. And to top it off, the passages cover some of kids' favorite topics - like spiders, bats, apples, amphibians, insects, weather, popcorn, ice cream, holidays, and more!
*Each passages includes an optional paragraph writing activity. Students use what they have learned in the passages to write an informational paragraph.
How can I use this resource in my classroom?
- Targeted small group instruction with your advanced 1st or 2nd grade students
- Text Evidence and reading comprehension practice with your below level 3rd grade students
- Literacy Centers
- Whole group text evidence instruction
- Individual Practice
*There are various levels within each unit. I originally began creating these passages for my first and second grade multi-age classroom. I needed something to meet multiple levels and needs. You probably won’t want to use every passage for every student. The passages do get more difficult as the months progress.
*The second set of spring passages are a little more difficult! They are more appropriate for second grade students. There are simpler versions of the spring passages in each monthly bundle.
