These Properties of Materials cards picture and posters are specifically designed for early childhood aged children and are a great way to add a little color to your Science centre.
This poster pack is intended to support your chemical science unit when learning about the different properties of materials.
It contains a variety of properties of materials posters which are great for classroom display or class discussion when introducing a new property (for example absorbent or waterproof, transparent or opaque properties).
In addition to posters, this pack also includes-
- properties of materials sorting labels (with simple ideas on how to use for hands on science investigations)
- reusable sorting mats (Venn diagrams and basic tables) - these mats are not labelled so you can change the property of the material you are sorting/investigating by using write and wipe markers on the mats - see preview for example).
- a set of word wall cards for display in your science learning area.
The properties of materials posters cover:
- Weak and Strong (2 versions)
- Hard and Soft ( versions)
- Flexible and Rigid
- Absorbent and Waterproof
- Transparent and Opaque
- Wood, Metal, Plastic
- Glass, Fabric, Paper
- Solids, Liquids, Gas (states of matter - for children to look at the different properties for each state of matter).
There are also 3 posters so children can discuss the different properties of
materials used for:
- Buildings and homes
- Toys
- Clothing
This pack also includes over 50 different pictures of objects that children can use to sort according to their properties (see preview for ideas on how to use the picture cards and sorting labels).
For Australian teachers, this pack also comes in standard A4 size and aligns well with the Foundation Chemical Strand for the Australian Curriculum (objects are made of materials that have observable properties). For children in older year levels, these posters are a great display to review basic properties of materials. Depending on how you use them, they can be adapted to suit older year levels.
