Projectile Motion Lab [AP, IB, AS, and Honors Level Physics]

This lab is intended for physics students who are familiar with 1-dimensional motion equations, the concepts of displacement, velocity, and acceleration, and introduced to projectile motion. Students will be using both an experimental and theoretical approach to determine the horizontal range of a projectile and comparing the two results. I have personally used this lab with IB Physics students and it is a fan-favorite! I have used this lab in both an in-person and a virtual setting.

The lab can be completed pretty easily for learners at home! All they need is a small ball or marble (do not use a ball with a textured surface such as a golf ball or tennis ball as it creates a lot of friction), a meter stick, ruler, or tape measure, a stop watch, books (or something similar) to construct the launcher ramp, tape (to mark displacement length on table), a calculator, and a cup. It’s an awesome opportunity for learners to have hands-on lab experience while at home with simple supplies.
