Project-Based Autobiography {Intermediate}

It's back-to-school! This {newly revised} unit is all you will need to start your year off with students in Grade 4 - 6. It is a writing-based Language Arts project that is tried and true with Gr 3-7 students. Teachers are encouraged to complete the project themselves to share a display as not only a sample, but also as a way to introduce yourself.

This unit has 23 assignments with scaffolds/graphic organizers for students to choose from. I ask my students to complete 10 assignments in 3-4 weeks. Some assignments are done as a class and others are individual. This gives me a chance to observe student work habits early in the year. The family letter and rubric are editable so you may change it to suit the needs of your class.

By the end of this project, students will have a ten assignment display (I usually staple two Bristol boards together to make a stand-up display for students) for families, students, and teachers to learn more about one another. I use this project display as my "open house" and invite families to see the work students have done early in the year.
