Description
Prof du jour is a classic opening routine in the FSL classroom. But we can only talk about the date and the weather for so long before our students start getting bored… so why not keep it fresh and challenging with these monthly questions? Students will be communicating in a more authentic way, using high-frequency vocabulary, and discussing topics that matter to them!
This Prof du jour packet includes everything that you need to help your students use the target language, gain confidence in their speaking abilities, and encourage real conversation! Plus you’ll have all of the forms and rubrics that you need to provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of listening and speaking skills (as well as writing achievement) each and every month.

Teacher Guide: Step-by-step instructions to guide you through implementing the Prof du jour routine in your core French classroom.
An opening script for the Prof to use to greet classmates and ask basic conversational questions. A vocabulary reference is included to encourage students to go beyond a simple ça va bien and explain how they are feeling.
10 sets of questions: 10 sets of PDF questions around familiar topics are provided. Introduce and complete the questions at the beginning of the month, and then practise asking and answering them every day. Topics include Mes besoins, Mon école, Le calendrier, Ma famille, Mes vêtements, La nourriture, Mon temps libre, Les fêtes, Mes préférences and Me voici.
Options for Differentiation: Two versions of each monthly set of questions are provided. Use the short answer version to encourage students to respond in complete sentences or the sentence frame version for younger students or to differentiate for diverse learning needs.
Vocabulary Reference Pages: Steer your students away from online translators by providing them with the vocabulary and verbs that they will need to answer the questions. Make a copy of the vocabulary page on the back of the question page for any (or every) student in your class who would benefit from additional support. Full-page reference pages are included for Mes besoins, Mon école, Le calendrier, Ma famille, Mes vêtements, La nourriture, and Mon temps libre. Mini reference cards are provided for Les fêtes and Mes préférences. Encourage your students to use their notes and knowledge gained from the entire year of Prof du jour questions to help them complete the final Me voici questions.
Sign-up forms, Participation Tracking forms and Printable tickets: Encourage your students to participate in French class every day! Have students sign-up to be the prof for the week as well as take on additional roles like tracking participation and distributing tickets for a fun, end-of-the-month draw.
Rubrics for Assessment and Evaluation: Track student participation and provide descriptive feedback for all aspects of the Prof du jour routine. An anecdotal observation form, a quick assessment form, oral communication rubrics, and a writing rubric are included.
All rubrics and tracking forms are available as ready-to-print PDFs and EDITABLE PowerPoint files so that you can edit to suit your curriculum, standards, and grading practices.
