Description

This resource has been designed for older special education students. It contains an age-appropriate, 30-page workbook on probability.

The resource will help pupils to achieve these outcomes:

  • place the likelihood of events on a probability scale from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain)
  • describe events using the terms - certain, likely, even chance, unlikely, impossible
  • use equally likely outcomes to calculate the probabilities of simple events and express them as fractions in their simplest form.

The workbook includes 13 explanation pages, 13 worksheets, 3 progress checks, and a certificate of achievement. It is provided in PDF and an editable PowerPoint version to enable editing and personalisation of the resource.

It can be used for classwork, homework, revision, or as an independent learning pack.

Probability - 75 Slide PowerPoint Lesson

This is an age appropriate, editable, 75-slide PowerPoint lesson on probability. The PowerPoint clearly explains probability, the probability scale, and how to calculate the probability of an event and to express it as a fraction in its simplest terms. Many opportunities are provided within the PowerPoint for students to practise this skill. The PowerPoint also contains links to 2 videos on probability and example questions.

Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.
Develop a uniform probability model by assigning equal probability to all outcomes, and use the model to determine probabilities of events. For example, if a student is selected at random from a class, find the probability that Jane will be selected and the probability that a girl will be selected.
