    Pro Sports Team Marketing: Product Descriptions, Sequence, and Est. Time

    Description

    This simulation was designed to evoke student interest and apply key marketing concepts. Through the topic of sports, students will develop and design marketing materials. Students will create a pro sports team and expand upon their ideas through this semester project. Key marketing concepts covered include: the marketing concept, press kit, SWOT analysis, advertising media, promotional mix, and marketing plan. Through the project students will apply, analyze, and synthesize marketing efforts. You’ll save $$$ by purchasing this bundle or you can pick and choose your favorites as each product is also sold separately. 

    This bundle contains digital worksheets in Google Slides™ and allows students to add content in the text boxes/tables provided. Content requirements are provided as the background for each slide. For this reason, you cannot edit the content requirements. For files in Google Docs™ students will add text directly into the document. 

    When possible a print and digital product version have been included. The print and digital product versions cover the same material, but have been provided in two formats to provide you flexibility to fit the needs of your classroom. Please note that PDF documents are NOT optimized for Google Docs. The files in this product are meant to be PDFs and the formatting will be off if you try to open them as Google Docs™.

    Upon your download this bundle will be added to your Google Drive™ where you will receive a folder for each product with the included files. Within the folders you will find a variety of file types including PDF, Google Slides™, Google Docs™, and Google Sheets™. 

    Product Details

    Make your Sports Marketing course concepts come to life with this student-favorite project. Introduce the simulation with the FREE Pro Sports Team Marketing Idea Starter. This product was designed to help students think through the process of creating a professional sports team. Students will select a sport, professional league, city, team name, mascot, and team colors for a professional sports team of their creation. They will conduct research to provide evidence for their choices.

    Kick off your course with the basic aspects of marketing including: marketing concept, target market, exchange, consumers, producers, and marketing mix (product, place, price, promotion, and people). The Pro Sports Team Marketing Concept Project provides the option for a digital or print poster to be created around the content requirements listed.

    Then students will create a press release for a professional sports team of their creation with Pro Sports Team Marketing Press Kit Project. Students will collect information, create a bio for a key player, a fact sheet on the team, a press release for the season opener, marketing strategies, and a meeting brief highlighting their marketing strategy recommendation. Please note that the Information Collector and Marketing Planner would not be included in a real press kit but are included in this file to help students organize their ideas. Additionally, the Meeting Brief is an extension of the press kit and is provided for educational purposes as a way to promote class discussion and share marketing recommendations.

    With the Pro Sports Team Marketing Branding Project students will explore branding components and develop brand materials for a professional sports team of their creation. Start your lesson with a gallery walk to get students thinking about key concepts. Then students will design a logo, alternate logo, uniform design, social media profile image, social media profile bios, and social media highlight covers, as well as answer additional planning and reflection questions. This project (provided as print and digital) requires creativity while applying key marketing concepts and is sure to be a student favorite. 

    Next up students will complete the Pro Sports Team Marketing SWOT Analysis on a professional sports team of their creation. Students will use the guided research questions to examine their pro sports team. Then students will use their findings to develop an infographic or poster displaying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the business. To conclude the project, have students present their projects to the class as if the class were the team stakeholders.

    The Pro Sports Team Marketing Game Schedule and Theme Night Flyer is a two-in-one product that has students develop a game schedule for a fictional pro sports team of their creation and brainstorm theme nights to promote the new team. Students will design a game schedule appropriate for the sport selected, research past theme nights, brainstorm new ideas, and create a flyer advertising the theme nights. 

    Grab the Pro Sports Team Marketing Advertisements for a ready-to-use lesson to teach students about print and digital advertising media and let their creativity shine as they develop a billboard and social media advertisement for the professional sports team of their creation. Students will conduct research on various print and digital advertising media to complete two concept maps. A key is provided for you to discuss responses. Then students will design two advertisements for the pro sports team of their creation and reflect on their designs. 

    For the Pro Sports Team Marketing Camp Promotional Mix Project, students will plan the marketing and promotional mix aspects of a sports camp hosted by their professional sports team. This project is provided in a digital and print format, requires student creativity, engages student interest with an easily relatable topic, and promotes project-based learning. Students will work through a series of questions and prompts to apply each component of the marketing and promotional mix. The closing of the activity also includes 5 reflection questions.

    Use the Pro Sports Team Marketing Plan as a capstone project. Students will create a marketing plan for their professional sports team. The product includes 21-guided questions (print and digital) to help students address each section of the marketing plan. Next, students will develop a presentation based on the project instructions and share their plan with the class. Reflection worksheets (print and digital) are provided to keep the class on task during presentations. Use the provided grading rubric (based on 70 points) to assess student work. This project requires student creativity and promotes project-based learning.

    This project is meant to be a supplemental resource used throughout the semester as you cover each key concept. Alternatively, you could do this as an end of the course as a capstone project. I designed this project as a small group project, however, it could be completed individually should that fit the needs of your classroom. This resource does NOT include daily lesson plans. This project could be used in many different courses such as Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Marketing I, Marketing II, or Advertising, or Business Communications. Start with the FREE Pro Sports Team Marketing Idea Starter and the other projects in this bundle can be used in any order you see fit.
