Description

In this mini unit, students will be able to define what a primary and secondary source is and be able to give examples of the different types of sources.

I created this after I found a real need to teach this concept to my Grade 5/6 class explicitly.

There are 5 different activities included:

1. Definitions and flip flap foldable for history books

2. Cut and paste activity to become familiar with and to sort primary and secondary sources. Answer key included.

3.Primary and Secondary Source work sheets including a word cloze with answer key and source identification activity.

4. Mystery bag homework activity, where students bring in primary and secondary sources from home. Students act as historians, piecing together the items and work out what life would have been like for the owner of the items.

5. Students analyse a primary and a secondary source on the Australian Gold Rush and produce a written response with reference to the sources.

I look forward to hearing your feedback as it assists me in improving my products.

Thanks,

Jess D
