What educators are saying

Very well designed resource that was used for 3rd-4th grade students in a distance-learning environment.
Some of my 8th-graders needed a review and study source for the upcoming state writing assessment. This filled the bill nicely! Thanks so much for sharing it.

Description

If your students struggle to pick a topic, narrow it, and organize their thoughts -- they will benefit from more prewriting activities -- and I've got 11 for you!

This resource couldn't be easier to use -- just download the digital file, save to your drive, and use. You can share the whole digital notebook or just one activity at a time.

Easy-cheesy for mini lessons! Just project the slides and model (or use the student example). Reflection questions help guide discussion -- because students will be more successful with prewriting when they know what it's for and what it does!

This resource includes:

  • 11 different prewriting activities: brainstorming, clustering, free writing, looping, listing, mapping/diagramming, outlining, 5Ws + 1H, journaling, pro/con list, Venn diagram
  • colorful pages -- engaging and fun to write in the "notebook"
  • clear description and instructions for each one
  • student samples for each activity
  • room for students to write directly in the notebook -- and it's saved to their drive

Reasons to love this resource:

  • ready to use today!
  • slides can be projected onto your white board
  • perfect for warm ups, teaching the writing process, mini lessons
  • Need formative assessments? Oh yes, these will help you know just where your students are in the writing process.

Can you tell I LOVE this resource??!

I think it's so important to give students choices for prewriting -- and prewriting really helps them formulate their thoughts. I wrote a whole blog post about prewriting...so, yeah. Rather nerdy, but I believe it helps students and the writing process!

If you love digital notebooks, take a look at these:

  • Here's a Vocabulary Notebook that will help your students interact with new vocab in fun ways! What could be more fun than creating cartoons with vocabulary?! That's just one of 30 fun and funky activities.
  • And if you love poetry, don't miss my digital poetry notebook! 30 days of poetry writing. Swoon!
  • I have to tell you that this Gratitude Journal is a great way to get your students to think about what they are thankful for. A good "reset" for any time of year.

I'd love to have you follow my store! You know how to do it, right? Just click on that green star! Cool! I can't wait to hear what you think of this resource!! I read and respond to all feedback, plus you'll get TPT credit.

If you have questions about this resource (or anything else ELA related...I draw the line at cooking questions!!), just pop them in the Q&A below. I'll get right back to you!

Happiness always,

Marypat
