Description

Celebrating Presidents Day is a reader's theater script and reading comprehension resource your middle school students will love! Practice fluency and speaking while incorporating Presidents Day and Washington’s Birthday activities into your language arts instruction. This 7-character PDF script includes comprehension questions and word work activities, making this unit a flexible teaching resource you can use in multiple ways!

*A note about the spelling of Presidents Day: The AP Stylebook prefers “Presidents Day,” while Chicago Style uses “Presidents' Day.” This resource uses the former.

Have you ever wondered which president we celebrate on Presidents Day? I was curious as well, so I did a little research. The result was this fun, realistic fiction reader's theater script about the students at Caldwell School, who are doing research on significant Americans.

They are each responsible for learning as much about their assigned American as they can in order to give a presentation to their peers. One student struggles to find the best-fitting professional attire, and a classmate comes to his rescue. In the end, the presentation goes off without a hitch, and students learn a great deal about two early presidents and how they have come to be celebrated!

This Presidents Day toolkit includes:

• 5 page reader's theater script

• reader response questions

• context clue word work

• journal prompt

• summary strategy work

• compare and contrast

• informational fact work

• answer key

Estimated Lexile Measure: 850L

Your students won't even realize they are working with this fun script and literature tool kit.

Use this resource to teach about Presidents Day, use it any day to practice fluency, comprehension, word work, and writing, or utilize as plans for a substitute teacher.
