Description

This seven day unit of study emphasizes the importance of the election process in the United States. Since recent presidential elections have become divisive, students nominate and then elect a candy as the head of state of their Confectionery Country. The unit begins with students developing ideas about why someone would want to be president. Students learn the requirements and job description of the executive office and the qualifications of voters through history. Students make a graph, an annotated timeline, research a candy and nominate one that is eligible. They make posters to campaign, vote & play an electoral college game. This unit can be used as a stand alone to help students civilly participate in the upcoming presidential election, or with your study of citizenship and government participation.
