President Obama's Portrait Document Based Questions & Art Analysis + Bonus
- Zip
Description
Perfect for middle and high school students in grades 6-12. This assignment includes a short article about Presidential portraits, their history, and Kehinde Wiley's art style and symbolism that was used to develop President Obama's portrait. All writing was created by myself. Questions asked of the article and the artworks range from Level 1 through Level 4 from Webb's Depth of Knowledge and encourage creative thinking from the students.
As some questions are subjective, there may not be specific correct answers. For these instances, I have always explained to my students that including the why and using visual evidence from the artwork are required to better understand the students' thinking.
Designed to be part of a larger project on the Presidential Portraits, this assignment can also be used as a sub plan or opening activity for those with a block or double period schedule.
