Preschool Stuttering Parent Handouts

Research shows that preschool stuttering therapy is most beneficial when caregivers are involved. Unfortunately, many parents do not feel confident implementing these strategies. This doesn't have to be the case! Use the stuttering therapy parent handouts in this training manual to: educate parents about stuttering practice evidence-based techniques together, and make a plan for success!

• Caregiver Handouts: Use these handouts to help you educate parents about stuttering in preschoolers, explain risk factors for long-term stuttering, and the types of different disfluencies.
• Stuttering Techniques: Use these handouts to explain evidence based research techniques for preschoolers who stutter. These contain examples, and the research supporting the technique.
• Conversation Prompts: Use these prompts as you help the caregivers practice each technique with you.
• Practice Guides: There is one practice guide page for each technique. Each guide contains tips for successful implementation and encourages parents to foresee potential challenges and make a plan to be successful.
• Other Websites: There is an included list of websites parents can use to further their research at home.
• Practice Logs: Help parents keep track of practice sessions with these monthly practice logs. Parents simply mark each practice session as it is completed. This helps parents see the progress they are making and motivates them to keep practicing.
