This resource was a TEAM EFFORT by myself and Jessie from Special Resources By Jessie! We work together and found it helpful to keep a goal bank that we would constantly add to and use when an IEP meeting was coming up. We have added a great deal more to what we initially created, made it look amazing, and now we are sharing it with you!
Important Information:
- We are not experts. We did not include every possible goal for every possible situation. These goals were developed by us from our experiences. We also made an effort to add goals that we might not use, but you might. So there are a lot of goals :)
- Some goals can fit under multiple categories, but they are only listed in one so that we were not repetitive. For example, greetings are under ‘expressive’, but could also go under ‘social’.
- We do not believe students need academic goals while in preschool. As you will see in this document, there are many other goals that we need to focus on. That is why you will not see a list of reading, math, or writing goals.
- If you are interested in seeing a progression of academic skills, Rachel has the GOLD assessment checklist in her TPT store. That information is directly from the GOLD assessment from the Creative Curriculum.
- Kindergarten - When a student is about to transition to kindergarten we always check this list of goals to see if there is anything that child has not achieved while in preschool. If there are, we add those goals in for their transition to Kinder. We also consult with the kindergarten teachers to see what goals they feel are appropriate for kindergarten. Some don’t feel that the students need academic goals since kindergarten is the place to learn those , while some feel that they need academic goals. What we believe is most important when a student moves to kindergarten is that they are “school ready”. Meaning, they are able to sit in a class and attend to a task/lesson.
- Each goal is open for customization. Each student and classroom setting is different, so each of you will have to take these goals and make them your own. This is just a starting point for you.
- For example, we know many of your students might be limited-verbal, so you will have to alter some of these goals to fit the needs of those specific students and their devices, if they have.
- We tried to keep the goals on each page in an order of how we would use them, but again, every situation and student is different.
