    Each component of the Pre-K Literacy Curriculum lesson plans was designed to pack as much impact as possible into your day.

    • Oral language and vocabulary - Students will be introduced to at least two vocabulary words each week. They will talk about the words, complete vocabulary sorts, and create predictable sentences.

    • Poetry - Each week includes an original poem.

    • Phonological and phonemic awareness - Each unit will cover phonological and phonemic awareness skills included: repeating sentences, counting words in sentences, rhyming, alliteration, syllables, onset and rime, blending, and segmenting.

    • Concepts of print - The Pre-K Literacy Curriculum will cover a variety of concepts of print skills including: parts of a book, how to handle a book, picture vs text, letters words and sentences, directionality, spaces, 1 to 1 correspondence, capital letters, and the return sweep.

    • Comprehension - Comprehension will be taught each week using interactive read alouds. Skills covered will include characters, setting, feelings, problem and solution, main idea, retelling, making connections, cause and effect, visualizing, and making predications.

    • Student worksheets - The student worksheets each day are an optional follow up to the interactive read aloud lessons. Many worksheets include two options for differentiation.

    • Nonfiction reader - An original nonfiction book is included each week based around the weekly theme.

    • Gross motor activities - A weekly gross motor and movement activity is included each week and matches to the theme.

    • Fine motor activities - A weekly fine motor activity is included. Some examples include using stickers, dabbing paint, cutting, and tracing.

    • Explore - Exploration activities are included on the day you read the nonfiction reader. These include science experiments and hands-on activities.

    • Art and crafts - A weekly art project or craft is included based on the story or theme.

    • Social emotional learning - Weekly social emotional learning lessons (SEL) are included. Some topics covered include: choices at school, calming down, handling disappointment, feelings and emotions, and being a good friend.

    PRE-K PHONICS CURRICULUM

    The Empowering Little Readers Pre-K Phonics Curriculum has everything you need to teach explicit daily phonemic awareness and phonics lessons in Preschool, Pre-K, or Transitional Kindergarten (TK). The Pre-K Phonics Curriculum was designed with best practiced from the Science of Reading in mind to give your students a strong foundation in the alphabetic principle.

    Pre-K Phonics Unit 1: Meet the Letters includes 13 weeks or 65 days of phonics instruction. This preschool + pre-k phonics unit is meant to introduce students to the letter sounds and the letters that spell each sound.

    Pre-K Handwriting Unit includes 13 weeks or 65 days of handwriting instruction focusing on specific handwriting strokes and shapes. This unit does not go into letter formation, but rather focuses on one handwriting line each week.

    Pre-K Phonics Unit 2: Explore the Letters will include 22 weeks or 110 days of phonics instruction. This unit will dig deeper into the alphabetic principle as students learn how sounds make up words. It will also work on letter formation and handwriting.

    Each component of the Pre-K Phonics Curriculum lesson plans was designed to pack as much impact as possible into your day.

    • Phonological and Phonemic Awareness - These are quick phonological and phonemic awareness routines that will only take minutes each day.

    • Whole Group Lesson - The whole group lesson is short, around 5 minutes each day. Students will be introduced to the sound and the letter that makes the sound.

    • Music and Movement - Daily original songs are included for each letter and each letter pair.

    • Student worksheet - A short daily student practice worksheet is included to reinforce the letter in print.

    • Optional Small Group Activities - Short small group lessons are included to scaffold or extend the lesson. For scaffolding, students will focus on the mouth formation and sound of each letter. For extending the learning, students will begin using concepts of print as they read alphabet decodable readers.

    PRE-K MATH CURRICULUM:

    The Preschool and Pre-K Math Curriculum has everything you need for a hands-on, integrated math block. The pre-k math curriculum units were designed to make teaching math in preschool, pre-k, transitional kindergarten, or special education classes fun, engaging, and meaningful!

    • Number Sense Warm Up - This is a quick math warm up that will only take 1-2 minutes and usually means getting up and moving and grooving!

    • Whole Group Lesson - The whole group lesson is short, around 5 minutes each day. Students will be introduced to the math concept. This time may also include literacy integration with math mentor text read alouds.

    • Music and Movement - Daily original songs are included for each color and to review the colors. Finger puppets are included to make the songs more fun!

    • Pre-K Guided Math Small Groups - Students will dig deeper into the math objective in small groups. The small groups are differentiated for scaffolding the skill, meeting the skill, and extending the skill.

    • Student worksheet - A short daily student practice worksheet is included to reinforce the math skill.

    • Low Prep Pre-K Math Centers - Low to no prep preschool and pre-k math center mats are included to continue practicing the math concept. Each unit contains no prep math centers.
