Prehistoric Mammals by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld - Informational Text Unit
- PDF
Description
Teaching students how to navigate a non-fiction book is critically important. This unit takes students through a non-fiction text so they can really understand how to read it.
The book is a National Geographic Kids book called Prehistoric Mammals by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld. You can grab these books for about $4 each. There is also a free digital version that can be found on the Epic site!
It takes us about 2 weeks to get through the book. We do a lot of rereading and scanning for information as we dissect this text.
We also use Weekly Readers to make posters showing the different non-fiction text features. We use non-fiction text feature posters and interactive notebook pages to help students remember all of the different ones they may see in informational texts.
It's time to teach our students how to read those non-fiction texts!
