Do your students need a hands-on and visual way to learn new vocabulary words that have prefixes and suffixes? Do they need to practice reading words with affixes in context? Then grab this set of reading passage task cards, prefix and suffix sentence task cards, posters, and affix puzzles.
All of the materials in this set use the same graphics. This is helpful for English Language Learners as they are learning new vocabulary. There are both base words and root words included throughout the activities.
Prefixes included: pre, anti, mis, dis, over, re, multi, un, non, de, in, en, trans
Suffixes included: -s, -es, -ed, -ing, -y, -ly, -en, -ate, -ty, -er, -or, -less, -ive, -ship, -ment, -tion
Posters
There are both color and black and white versions included. These would be great to hang up as an affix of the day or week. You can also print them two or four to a page and create personal vocabulary books for students.
Reading Passage Task Cards
These 56 task cards allow students to identify prefixes and suffixes in the context of a reading passage. 28 cards have one prefix or suffix used throughout the reading passage and 28 cards have a mixture of different prefixes and suffixes. They come in both color and black and white.
Sentence Task Cards
There are three levels of task cards included. A sentence, picture, and question, A sentence, multiple-choice question, and picture, A sentence, and question. The sentences are taken from the reading passage task cards.
Puzzles
Each word comes with a picture to illustrate the word's meaning. There are two examples for each puzzle and four puzzles on each page.
Also included is an older version of this material as a bonus file. It contains 28 task cards, posters, flip books, graphic organizers, puzzles, and word building mats.
