What educators are saying

This is a very detailed resource. I love the skill building steps. The students were very successful learning new skills using a step by step approach. I wish I had an art teacher who taught like this!
My students liked the ability to learn through the scaffolding approach. Those who deemed themselves not talented, saw progress and were happy with their work. It makes me happy to see smiles and learning recognition on the faces of my students.

    Description

Everything you need to know to teach portraiture and skin tone drawing techniques in colored pencil (art lessons and video tutorials in both Prismacolor and Crayola Colored Pencils).

*Colored Pencil Brand Comparison Chart included for use with other colored pencil brands - students can easily transition between brands while watching tutorials

Portraiture Student Presentation with Guided Notes, Worksheet, Practice, video tutorials for each feature and guidelines for a fun and engaging Expressive Portrait project to finish off the unit.

***Student Video Tutorials focus on drawing technique, scale, proportion, value, shading and how to get an accurate likeness in your drawing.

Take your middle or high school artists to a whole new level of confidence as they create an original Expressive Graphite Pencil Self-Portrait using a quadrant/sighting freehand method of drawing. Students will first focus on drawing a series of facial features to hone their observation and drawing skills.

**EIGHT fully narrated STUDENT FACING Video Tutorials on HOW TO DRAW eyes, noses, mouths and hair as well as a video on how to lay out and develop an entire portrait are included in the lesson.

    • These tutorials are fully narrated and cover a step by step process for drawing each feature. They are geared toward teaching the drawing process and are perfect for Distance Learning, for students who miss your initial demonstration, need extra help, homework, extra practice and possible sub plans.

Using their own creative reference photo (directions on taking a successful reference photo included), the final step is a focus on scale, proportion, value creation and value transition as they develop their Expressive Self-Portrait.

This is a lesson that can be used year after year to grow your students' skills as well as increase their confidence, portrait knowledge and dedication to drawing.

Prior to this lesson, students in my classes have completed:

    • The Quadrant Method of Drawing Lesson found HERE
