    Description

Looking for poetry resources that will get your students excited about poetry and meet loads of standards at the same time? This bundle is for you! You'll get five different lesson plans that will invigorate your Language Arts class.

In this bundle, you'll find a variety of lessons that teach poems that are CCSS Exemplar Texts. To allow for comparison opportunities, two authors have two poems each, one female poet and one male poet.

In this bundle your students will explore:
"A Bird Came Down the Walk" by Emily Dickinson

Reading poetry out loud can be easy if you know the tips and tricks! This lesson uses Emily Dickinson's poem "A Bird Came Down the Walk" to teach oral reading of poetry. It's an often overlooked standard, but no more! Your students will use these skills for years to come.
    "Fog" by Carl Sandburg
Do you love fun figurative language? This is the lesson for you! Poetry and figurative language come together in this lesson that teaches students about Carl Sandburg's poem "Fog" while also teaching an unusual figurative language device! This lesson in incredibly low in preparation (give them a copy & you're done), but incredibly high in power. Students will love learning something unusual. You'll love that the direct instruction is done for you!
"The Echoing Green" by William Blake
If you would like to lead a high-quality discussion of William Blake's "The Echoing Green," this resource is for you! It's quick but powerful, and addresses figurative language standards, as well as poetry analysis standards. Yea for short lessons that accomplish a ton!
"Theme in Yellow" by Carl Sandburg
If your students don't like to write poetry, let's change their minds together! Using Carl Sandburg's "Theme in Yellow" as a mentor text, we'll analyze the poem and then use it to help students write their own poem.
"I Like to See It Lap the Miles" by Emily Dickinson
Your students will lap up Emily Dickinson's "I Like to See It Lap the Miles" with this interactive, engaging lesson plan. You'll get an interactive PowerPoint (yes, that's a thing) to share with a word-for-word transcript for you. Your students will then play the part of "Literary Device Detectives" as they apply what they've learned in an activity sheet.

Most of the activities are very, very low-prep. For the most part, you'll just need some copies!

You'll find this bundle is perfect for fourth grade through tenth grade students, and it's also wonderful for homeschoolers.
