What educators are saying

We are using the resource to suppliment a unit on Poetry. The comparisions of poems is similar to the state testing exams.
My son loved this resource it was easy to navigate and understand. The packet was put together nicely. This resource was a great addition to our studies

Description

I was in desperate need of some great poetry to live up to the CCSS and that was how Poetry Analysis was born. My students needed rigorous texts that showed them how to critically think about poetry more than the surface level rhyming funny poems we had been studying.

I found some AWESOME poetry and ways to incorporate this into your middle grades classrooms! The poems are great for a "close read" style or as homework, as a class, or even as a center!

The pack includes:

6 - 1/2 sheet poems (not public domain) with QR links and still great questions

11- pages with answer keys over 9 poems and even comparing poems and media - the dreaded CCSS.R9!!!

9 - poems for student notebooks

All public domain works

*I'm Nobody - Emily Dickinson

*How Doth the Little Crocodile - Lewis Carroll

*Nothing can Stay Gold - Robert Frost

*The Eagle - Alfred Tennyson

*The Echoing Green- William Blake

*Mr. Nobody - Author Unknown

*Foreign Lands - Robert Louis Stevenson

*Spring - William Blake

*I Hear America Singing - Walt Whitman

This is great for any classroom as poetry is important to study at each grade level! The poems are appropriately rigorous for the level but engaging enough for students to like and appreciate.

Each page has the copy of poem (or link), questions (and answer key) and the CCSS anchor standard alignment.

If you like this poetry project, check out this Figurative Language Tab Book It is a great activity before studying poetry and teaches all the types as well!

If your students write poetry, this a great resource: My Poetry Portfolio
