Description

This 4 page poem analysis features Langston Hughes' Harlem Renaissance era poem "I, Too." Use this poem to teach about the Harlem Renaissance and the rise of black culture and appreciation of black history during the 1920s.

The analysis starts out with lower Bloom's questions and has the students answer a pre-reading question, then read the poem, listen to the poem read aloud, and paraphrase the poem's words. Then, the students evaluate the connotations of the poem, plot, subject, and theme, before reflecting on a relevant picture and writing on the question: How does Hughes' poem reflect the African American view towards equality and the American Dream?

I played Jazz Age/20s music in the background while they did this activity.
