    Description

Your Second Grade and Third Grade students will blow your minds with the high-level thinking they'll do with the poetry lessons in this poetry bundle. You'll be so amazed at their critical and creative thinking that you'll be bragging about them in the teacher workroom.

The lessons are geared to Second and Third Grade (with one designed to bridge to Fourth Grade), but I won't tell if you use it with other grades as well!

You'll get excellent teacher instructions, step-by-step, word-for-word classroom procedures, and a checklist for any prep needed.

In this bundle, you'll find a variety of lessons that teach poems that are CCSS Exemplar Texts. Loads of other standards are addressed, too, including writing and other reading standards.

In this bundle your students will explore:
"My Neighbor's Dog is Purple" by Jack Prelusky

Let's teach rhyme in poetry using a series of activities guaranteed to have your students asking for more! This resource offers your students to learn about rhyme thorugh class discussion and a super fun small group charades activity. Then, they'll practice some more with "My Neighbor's Dog is Purple." Students get visualization practice while they sketch out the beginning, middle, and end of the poem as you read aloud. There's even a writing prompt!
    Alliteration
Creating poems together is fun when there are mazes involved! In this fun activity, students combine alliteration practice with a maze activity to practice their skills in a small group. They'll use those skills to create an alliteration poem they'll share with the class. Alliteration is so fun! If you're looking for an activity that makes literary elements and poetry feel fun and easy, this is the one!
    Sensory Poem
Sensory poems are powerful! They encourage students' creativity, and they result in amazing poems. Three different activities guide students through the poetry writing process. Graphic organizers help students organize their thoughts and prepare to write. You're going on a micro field trip for this one, as you take students outside the building so they can use all of their senses to gather material for their poems. You'll get a mentor text as an example, too!
"Dust of Snow" by Robert Frost
Raise students' thesaurus skills to incredible heights using Robert Frost's poem "Dust of Snow." Your students will love the gorgeous visuals included to awaken all of their senses. This lesson is perfect for early elementary and middle elementary students who need to develop their thesaurus skills and address poetry standards. They'll rewrite Frost's poem using what they gained from the thesaurus work they've done, creating fabulous poems based on the mentor text.
    "My Favorite Place" Poetry Writing
Poetry, parts of speech, the poet's craft...this lesson has it all! Students will imagine a special place and use parts of speech to create a poem about it. Three different activities guide students through the poetry writing process. Graphic organizers help students organize their thoughts and prepare to write.

Most of the activities are very, very low-prep. For the most part, you'll just need some copies!
