Podcasting – Create Your Own Podcast - Project Based Learning Unit

This Podcast Unit is targeted for Middle School students and provides the background context and structure for teachers to implement a Podcast Project in their classroom.

Why should I use podcasts in my classroom?

-It gives students a potential audience (either thousands or just a classroom of students) depending on how you have students share these out.

-It's great for developing literacy skills (writing scripts, organizing thoughts, maid idea and details, setting up interviews etc), allows children to develop and practice their speaking and listening skills

-Podcasts can be interactive. You can allow the audience to send their comments, giving valuable feedback to the students about their work.

-Creativity is used to provide students a different outlet for their thoughts

Podcast Unit – Project Based Learning - Create Your Own Podcast

Through this unit, students will research and explore the social media platform of Podcasting. They will complete the following design process:

• Background Research and exploration of podcasts

• Evaluation and analysis of existing podcast structures

• Choosing a Podcast Topic in a given content area

• Design and outline podcast

• Record Podcast using technology mediums of Garage Band or Screen-Castify

• Edit and modify product

• Present and share out final version.
