What educators are saying

Great practice of skills taught. Excellent way for students to enjoy practicing skills and being engaged in their learning.
This was such a cute and useful resource. I put it in a station to review plural nouns, and my students really enjoyed it.

Description

Keep your student engaged as they learn the rules of plural nouns with this plural nouns worksheet and craftivity! Students will practice using common spelling rules for forming plural nouns. It also makes a creative bulletin board or school hallway display!

  • Worksheet- Students begin by completing a worksheet with 20 sentences. They read each sentence and then write the plural form of the underlined word. They also write a new sentence that includes the plural form of the word.

While completing the worksheets, students practice the following spelling rules for forming plural nouns:

  1. For most nouns, simply add an -s.
  2. If a noun ends in y, change the -y to an -i, and then add -es.
  3. If a noun ends in -f, change the -f, to a -v, and then add -es.
  4. If a word ends in -x, -sh, -ch, or -ss, add -es.
  5. Some nouns (like mouse and child) are irregular. You have to memorize their plural form.

  • Activity- Next, students copy the words from their worksheets onto the correct pinwheel image. Students must sort the words according to the spelling rule that was applied for each word. Finally, students color and cut out the pinwheels and glue them to a sheet of construction paper.

Student-friendly directions are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project. Answer keys are also included.

Here's what teachers like you had to say about using this activity with their students:

⭐️ Michelle J. said, "Enjoyable, colourful, and exciting way to review nouns. Students had a blast creating these and it was a great review for them! Makes a beautiful and fun display in your classroom as well."

⭐️ Chelsea H. said, "Very little prep work, the students enjoyed doing 'crafts' at grammar time. The group of kiddos I have this year loves to color so as soon as they filled out their pinwheels correctly they got to color which they loved!"

⭐️ Tammy E. said, "My students enjoyed the hands-on component to this activity. It was a concrete way to reinforce spelling rules we were studying."

⭐️ Marilyn M. said, "I had a student with me this afternoon while I was looking for plural noun activities. I asked him about this one and another one. Yours got a very excited, "That's the one!"
