Description

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce plural nouns and their spelling patterns to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 39-slide PowerPoint is highly interactive and highlights all the important spelling rules associated with forming plural nouns. This PowerPoint lesson begins with an explanation of singular and plural. Then, 7 "rules" slides are presented, where students are given opportunities to apply the rule by writing the plural words on a whiteboard or piece of paper Finally, there are 16 practice slides, where students are given a singular noun, and they are asked to write the plural form of the noun in a sentence.

The seven spelling "rules" include:

  1. For most words, just add -s.
  2. When a word ends with -x, add -es.
  3. When a word ends with -sh, add -es.
  4. When a word ends with -ch, add -es.
  5. When a word ends with -ss or -s, add -es.
  6. When a word ends with -f or -fe, change the f to a v, and add -es.
  7. When a word ends with -y and the letter before the 'y' is a consonant, change 'y' to an 'i', and add -es.

**There are also multiple slides devoted to irregular plurals (children, men, women, mice, teeth, feet, fish, sheep).

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

This is a compressed zipped file that includes three items:

  1. 37-slide Plural Nouns PowerPoint (You have my permission to convert this PowerPoint to Google Slides, if you wish.)
  2. 3-page PowerPoint Companion Handout (The companion handout includes both a printable version and a Google Slides version.)
  3. 1-page Worksheet (The worksheet is available in a printable version and a Google Slides version, as well.)
