Plumbing- Architecture and Building Trades Lesson Slideshow
- Google Slides™
Description
This lesson introduces plumbing systems and explains the basics of how they are designed and built into structures, focusing mainly on residential construction. I use this lesson with my architecture students, focusing more on design considerations, how these systems work, terminology, and why buildings might be designed a certain way. This slideshow would also make a terrific introduction to key concepts for building trades students, though I usually stop short of explaining detailed construction techniques for builders. It is intended to be a first look for students interested in building design and construction.
Big ideas addressed in this lesson are:
- How do we get our water?
- How do we get rid of our waste?
- What causes water pressure?
- Exactly what is considered plumbing?
- What kinds of building materials are involved?
- What kinds of tools are used?
- What career opportunities exist?
- What do architects need to consider about plumbing?
- What’s in a plumbing plan and how do you read one?
I like to follow this lesson up with a plumbing plan reading activity, which is not currently posted for sale.
Keep an eye out for my guided notes activity for this lesson, coming soon.
