What educators are saying

This was a great resource and my students enjoyed learning a little bit more about the pledge they recite every day. Thanks!
This was a perfect way to put what they have already mastered orally and put it to paper. They were allowed to be creative or use the pictures. It provided lines for students to use, which is a plus this time of year!

Description

Kick off your year with an introductory lesson about citizenship by discussing our Pledge of Allegiance. It's always surprising to see how many students recite the words but have little knowledge on the meaning behind them and why we, as Americans, say it each and every day.

This mini-lesson introduces new vocabulary and works through them in a variety of ways so that students can better understand the context of what the Pledge represents for our country.

Objectives covered:

  • VA SOL: Civics 2.10

Students will be able to explain the responsibilities of a good citizen.

  • TEKS Kindergarten: Social Studies 9.B

Recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag and the Pledge to the Texas Flag

  • TEKS First Grade: Social Studies 13.B, 13.E

Recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag and the Pledge to the Texas Flag; and explain how patriotic customs and celebrations reflect American individualism and freedom.

** More TEKS standards here.

What's Included:

  • Color, cut, and match images to each line of the Pledge
  • Room for students to practice writing the Pledge on each page!
  • Workbook interactive pages for each line that explains what the words mean
