Place Value (Fast Food and Project Based Learning)

There are two different levels in this packet. The materials with calories in food go up to the hundreds place. The materials with the number of restaurants in the United States go up to the ten thousands place. Both levels have all the same activities.

*Activity #1: Writing the number of calories or restaurants in the USA in expanded or word form.

*Activity #2: A scoot game where students will add two numbers and then write the sum in expanded or word form. Some of these cards also ask students to write the value of a digit.

*Activity #3: Adding restaurants or calories together to find standard form and then writing the number in expanded or word form. (Some sums may go over the hundred’s place!)

*Activity #4: Playing a board game to practice writing numbers in expanded and word form.

*Activity #5: Students will compare the number of restaurants or calories using the greater than or less than sign.

*Activity #6: Students will create their own restaurant using the check-list provided! They will create a menu for the restaurant and will plan the lay-out for their restaurant. (This activity also incorporates measuring in cm and finding the perimeter!)
