Description

In grades 4-6, students start asking, "Why does this matter? When will I use this in real life?" THIS PRODUCT IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF APPLYING TO REAL LIFE!

As a teacher, one of the most effective and purposeful ways to reach your students, and keep them engaged, is by incorporating the MOVEMENT and the ARTS! Whether it is movement (like in PE class, dance or theatre), auditory (like in music) or visual (like in art class)... the students ALWAYS enjoy it! It allows them to release their creative side and put a new, excited perspective on learning. Even the ones who claim they don’t have the skill-set come out on the other side energized.

In this activity, the students release built up energy while mastering the concept of movement and identifying their physical capacity. It allows you to reach them by using relatable activities (while they do a little bit of self reflection). Right from the start, encourage your students to take PRIDE in their work and understand that their products are a reflection of them! Use the sheets as you need them!!!

(Also, be conscious of students letting their competitive nature take over the activity... I strongly encourage you to strategically group your students.)

SKILLS THAT THIS PRODUCT COVERS:

Powers of 10

Place Value from the Hundredth Place

Patterns of multiplying x10 and x1/10 (0.1)

Comparing (Greater Than, Less Than and Equal)

Adding/Subtracting Decimals

**This product was made based around the idea that your students could be put into groups of 4. If you cannot put your students in groups of 4, you can have groups share data to make it possible to analyze the data and let their learning flourish!

Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36),...
Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.
