This pizza-themed fraction resource makes learning and practicing fractions fun while focusing on using correct math vocabulary.
It includes the following hands-on activities:
• Pizza Fraction Craftivity – Students begin this activity by partitioning their pizzas printable into halves, thirds, or fourths. They then cut out and paste toppings of their choice onto the pizzas and color. Students then show what they know by writing paragraphs about their pizzas that use examples of fraction vocabulary. Student directions, a vocabulary reference list, and pizza-themed writing paper are included. This makes a great bulletin board display!
• Pizza Fraction Puzzles – Students match each pizza picture with a fraction that tells how much of the pizza is left, both in words and using fractional notation. Nine three-piece puzzles are included. Make them self-checking by adding stickers or colored dots to the backs to indicate matched sets.
• Fraction Pizza Printables – Students draw lines to match pizza fraction pictures with the appropriate fraction. They then write the fraction in words. These are great for a quick assessment or lesson exit slip!

These activities address the following Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.G.A.3: Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.1: Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.
