Physical Education K-Grade 2 Spatial Awareness Unit (IB PYP PE - Inquiry Based)
Description
Inquiry Based Lessons - Suitable for a first unit of the year from Kindergarten to Grade 2. Students gain spatial awareness skills starting with safety when playing games and being aware of their surroundings. Also suitable for Inquiry based learning such as IB PYP PE - Who We Are Transdisciplinary Unit Standards Included.
All lessons are based on a 45-minute class allocation twice a week. Unit will take approximately 4 weeks to complete, and games can be replayed multiple times for assessment and enjoyment of skills and game play.
The purpose of this unit is to make sure students have body and spatial awareness while playing in PE. At the end of the unit, students should know how to look where they are going, slow down or change direction instead of colliding with classmates or objects during games, understand the choices they make and consequences of actions. They should physically and verbally be able to show understanding of the concept and build on their knowledge throughout the unit. This unit is a great introduction to PE in Kindergarten but should also be reviewed at the beginning of Grade 1 and Grade 2 to keep students in control of their own body and space when playing games.
